Origin

Kampot pepper is grown in Kampot province, located in the very south of Cambodia in Southeast Asia.

This region’s coastal climate and geological conditions enable local farmers to produce pepper of the highest quality in the world. It is no coincidence that this pepper has earned protected geographical indication status, much like French champagne.

We buy pepper from small family farms under direct trade terms that guarantee fair compensation for every grower, and we strive to promote this approach among other traders too.

By shopping with us, you get not only the highest-quality pepper, but also the assurance that you are buying a sustainable and ethically responsible product that helps provide its producers’ children with healthcare and education.

Characteristics

Each pepper variety has its own distinctive taste and aroma, unlike anything you’re likely to find in ordinary supermarkets.

Give a unique box containing glass test tubes filled with the three essential varieties of Kampot pepper, nicknamed the champagne of peppers. It is considered the best pepper in the world for its quality and will elevate any dish. The set contains enough pepper for more than 400 servings.

Once ground, black pepper releases notes of eucalyptus, camphor and thyme, accompanied by the aroma of lime zest. These gradually give way to a coastal aroma with developing fruity notes. The dominant aromas are peach and nectarine, complemented by pine and earthy notes from Cambodia’s mineral-rich mountain soil.

Rare red pepper is an explosion of fruity notes with a gentler heat. At first, notes of rose and rosehip predominate, followed by dried cherries. After two to three minutes, more characteristic Kampot pepper aromas begin to develop, such as citrus fruits, dried mandarins and the earthier crust of sourdough bread.

White pepper is a gentle yet still peppery caress for the taste buds. Once ground, it releases aromas of camphor, sage and cedarwood, accompanied by delicate notes of mace, grapefruit and other citrus fruits. After a few minutes in the mouth, you may notice notes of nutmeg, thyme blossom and lemon balm, underpinned by aromas of cedar and black tea.

The peppercorns come from small family farms in Cambodia’s Kampot province, where they have been grown for generations with respect for the soil, nature and people. Farmers follow traditional methods that ensure not only excellent flavor but also ethical sourcing.

The set is also exceptionally environmentally friendly, made using recycled and natural materials certified for responsible forest management.

Processing

Kampot pepper comes in three basic colors, distinguished by how the pepper vine fruits are processed.

Black pepper is harvested while the peppercorns are still green. They are then dried in the hot Cambodian sun, which gives them their characteristic black color and wrinkled surface.

Red pepper is harvested from fully ripe peppercorns. They ripen to a deep red color and are rich in fructose, which gives this pepper its unique flavor.

White pepper is a specialty made from fully ripe red peppercorns. They are dried in direct sunlight and then soaked again to remove the red skin, leaving only the creamy white peppercorn.

Careful selection in accordance with the strict quality requirements for pepper exported from Kampot, established by the Kampot Pepper Promotion Association, ensures that only the finest peppercorns are hand-picked. They are then vacuum-packed to preserve their quality and freshness on the journey to the Czech Republic, where they are further sorted, packaged and delivered straight to your table.

How to Use

Different flavors, aromas and levels of heat make each pepper variety suitable for different uses.

Black pepper is an all-rounder that works well in almost any dish. It is especially ideal with dark red meat. It will take any steak cooked on the grill or in a pan to perfection, and is also excellent in classic sauces and soups and pairs wonderfully with pasta.

Thanks to its fruity character, red pepper is the king of cold dishes. It goes well in vegetable salads and pairs beautifully with risotto and soups. Don’t be afraid to experiment with it in sweet desserts or cocktails. Rather than dark meat, pair it with fish or light poultry.

White pepper is ideal with light-colored meat. It enhances the flavor of seafood beautifully, pairs well with risotto and creamy soups, and also holds its own when served with good pasta.

The finer you crush Kampot pepper, the more intense its heat; larger fragments or whole peppercorns, on the other hand, impart more of the pepper’s distinctive notes to a dish.

Packaging

Design that protects flavor and nature—and makes a lovely gift.

We have placed Kampot pepper in 10 g glass test tubes made from Czech-melted glass. The glass beautifully protects the flavor profile and aroma of the peppercorns, while also giving them an elegant, timeless look.

The test tubes are nestled in a sturdy wooden gift box, giving the set a premium look and making it an ideal gift for lovers of fine food. The box can be personalized with custom engraving—a name, a greeting or even a simple picture—to create a truly personal gift.

All materials used are recyclable and can easily be repurposed once the contents have been used—for example, as spice jars or kitchen decorations. The set is designed with sustainability and upcycling in mind.

Awards

Quality comes first for us, as confirmed not only by the certificates our pepper holds, but also by the awards it wins at international competitions.

Among the most significant is the award our pepper received at the Great Taste Awards, one of the most prestigious competitions in the world of gastronomy.

Sustainability is also important to us, and we don’t see it as just an empty promise, as demonstrated by the SDG Award given to truly sustainable and socially responsible projects.
