Processing

Careful handwork, unchanged for hundreds of years, is how coarse sea salt is harvested.

It crystallizes on the surface of special pools called salt pans, into which ocean water is channelled and contained. The water gradually evaporates under the sun and wind, forming salt crystals on its surface.

The resulting crystals are harvested by hand, without any machinery, using only long wooden rakes. This preserves the salt’s consistent texture and ensures it is perfectly pure and of the highest quality.

As with Kampot pepper, sea salt is harvested and processed by individual small farms. Farming families pass down the salt-making tradition from generation to generation. This means the salt is completely organic, with no need for any further refining. And, just as with pepper, we buy the salt directly from these farmers to ensure they are fairly rewarded for their hard work.

Uses

Coarse sea salt is perfect for everyday cooking.

Use it to season dishes, for pickling and preserving meat, fish and vegetables, to make marinades, to rest meat in a salt crust, or to decorate the surface of baked goods.

Origin

Perfectly pure, full of flavour and minerals—that’s the salt from the salt pans of Cambodia’s Kampot Province.

The tradition of harvesting sea salt is as deeply rooted in the region as pepper cultivation. The conditions here are ideal. Intense sunshine, ocean breezes and a mild climate made the area perfect for establishing salt pans and harvesting salt from the ocean hundreds of years ago. Its quality rivals that of sea salt from the most renowned regions of France and Portugal.

Packaging

Thanks to the materials used and the special sealing technology, no air or moisture can get to the salt.

We pack our coarse salt in resealable 120-gram pouches. This allows the salt to retain its authentic flavour and aroma even after the pack is opened. Once empty, you can also upcycle the pouches as part of a more sustainable lifestyle and reuse them in many other ways. Each pack also includes a brochure telling the story of the world’s finest pepper and salt and introducing you to the world of .pepper..field.

Awards

Quality comes first for us, as confirmed not only by the certificates our salt carries, but also by the awards it has won at international competitions.

Among the most notable is the award our salt received at the Great Taste Awards, one of the most prestigious competitions in the world of gastronomy.

Sustainability is also important to us. We see it as more than just an empty promise, as demonstrated by the SDG Award, presented to genuinely sustainable and socially responsible projects.
